Women’s Justice Initiative – Guatemala

Our partner Women’s Justice Initiative is taking one of the boldest steps in its history: expanding its programs to Sololá. After more than a decade working alongside women and girls in Chimaltenango, the organization is now bringing its legal empowerment methodology to new communities in the Maya Kaqchikel region.

The groundwork was laid in 2025: new local team members were hired and trained, community mapping was completed, an office was opened in the municipal center, and trust was built with community leaders and local service providers.

In January of this year, programs began rolling out across 23 communities, and results have come quickly. Today, 56 women are participating in the Community Advisors Program, a two-year training process.

And in May, a historic milestone was reached: 227 women from communities across Sololá graduated from the Women’s Rights Training Program.

Seeing so many women strengthen their knowledge, leadership, and confidence reaffirms the importance of this work. The organization continues to grow, with its sights set on reaching more women in Sololá and building communities that are more just, safe, and full of opportunity.
