Standing in front of a microphone, hearing a word in English, and spelling it out calmly and accurately in front of an audience is no small thing — especially when you’re 7 years old and it’s your first time competing in an academic event. On July 19, students from the “Construye Sueños: Perulapia Learning Center” program of Fundación Amor es Acción Internacional did exactly that at the Spelling Bee 2026 — and they did it with a courage that left a lasting impression.
The event brought together students from the Kids Basic (ages 7–9) and Kids Intermediate categories, each with its own set of challenges.
The youngest participants experienced for the first time what it feels like to compete academically, and every word spelled was a step forward in their learning journey.
The intermediate students faced greater complexity with focus and precision, showing the real progress of months of consistent practice.
But beyond the spelling, what the Spelling Bee reveals is something else: the confidence that is built when a child from a vulnerable community has access to quality education, dedicated teachers — like volunteer Mrs. Mireya Hernández García — and spaces that challenge and celebrate them at the same time. The Foundation believes every learning opportunity has the power to transform a life. For many of these children, the Spelling Bee 2026 was exactly that kind of opportunity.
