Comunidad Primavera in Ixcán—a diverse territory where Mam, Q’anjob’al, Q’eqchi’, Kaqchikel, Jakalteka, Chuj, Ixil, and Ladino Maya families live side by side—offers educational services from pre-primary through upper secondary. However, access to professional development opportunities for teachers remains limited.

To address this need, Asociación CasaSito developed a Certificate Program in Comprehensive Sexuality Educationthis year, delivered through three workshops that brought together 38 teachers from different grade levels.

The program strengthened teachers’ capacity to address essential classroom topics such as sexual and reproductive health, gender identity, emotional development, life planning, violence prevention, healthy relationships, and responsible decision-making.

It also provided practical tools to better support adolescents through the challenges of this stage of life—especially in areas that are often not openly addressed either at school or at home.

Thanks to this training, teachers will be better equipped to guide and support students, indirectly reaching 920 young people in the community and contributing to their overall well-being and informed decision-making.
