The Blue of Our Roots

Azul Originario proudly celebrated the completion of “Blue of Our Roots,” a six-month training program that brought together 15 entrepreneurs from Juayúa, Sonsonate, to revive and enhance the ancestral art of dyeing with indigo and other natural pigments.

The program had a dual purpose: to strengthen participants’ technical and creative skills to grow their businesses, and to preserve the cultural legacy of El Salvador’s Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples—where indigo, known as “blue gold,” stands as a symbol of identity, history, and pride.

The impact is already visible in the community. Families have begun applying what they learned to their ventures, generating new economic opportunities and reinforcing local cultural identity.

Their creativity and enthusiasm send a clear message: when art and tradition come together, local development flourishes—and pride in our roots shines even brighter.
