Women who Accompany and Transform: Strengthening the Defense of Rights

August 6, 2025

Proyecto Vida, Costa Rica

In the first half of 2025, Proyecto Vida provided support and counseling to 105 women who were victims of violence in its various forms: physical (15 reports), psychological (58), sexual (5), economic (22), and HIV-related discrimination (5).

To strengthen the work of the Community Legal Promoters (CLPs) —women with HIV who support others in defending their rights— training workshops were developed in conjunction with officials from the Women’s Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry and the Justice of the Peace, the entities to which most cases are referred.

Thanks to these actions, the CLPs not only advise and accompany other women victims of violence in legal proceedings, but have also gained credibility with institutions, enabling them to file complaints and ensure that women’s voices are heard.

The impact of this initiative goes beyond the numbers: these are women who become community leaders, promoting access to justice and demonstrating that solidarity can transform realities.
