Hogar de Niños Fátima – Guatemala
Science doesn’t start in a laboratory. It starts when someone wonders why the sky is blue, why water makes things wet, why stars shine from so far away. And when that question finds a space to grow, extraordinary things happen. That is exactly what 12 children at Hogar de Niños Fátima experienced during the Science Club led by our partner.

Over 12 sessions, they explored physics, chemistry, engineering, and astronomy — not from a textbook, but with their own hands. They built air-powered rockets and discovered how pressure generates movement. They assembled electrical circuits and learned that electricity needs a complete path.
They designed bridges with simple materials and tested how much weight they could hold. They observed fluids that behave like liquid and solid at the same time. They watched a chemical reaction inflate a balloon without anyone blowing. Each experiment left new questions. And those questions kept coming long after the session ended.
The most important changes didn’t happen in the experiments — they happened in the children. Marvin, the youngest in the group, kept searching for astronomy books weeks after the program ended; his favorite planet is Jupiter, and he still remembers it has rings too. Rolando used a trip to the beach to observe stars in the dark night sky and keep asking questions about the universe. Dylan, who at first rarely spoke in front of others, stood up at the final presentation and explained — from memory, with confidence and enthusiasm — the non-Newtonian fluid experiment.
The Club ended. The curiosity didn’t. And that is the best evidence that something important happened there: twelve children who learned that asking questions is the first step to understanding the world.
