AESMO – Honduras
In the Plan de Ojo de Agua sector, within the Volcán Pacayita Biological Reserve, the 2025 closing camp was held in coordination with the Pacayonas–Ventanas Co-Management Council, with technical support from AESMO.

The gathering brought together members of the Council and water board representatives from the Lenca Indigenous communities of El Tuyal, El Aguacatillo, La Mohaga, and El Cutal, as well as the community of San Luis. The day focused on strengthening community ties and reaffirming a shared commitment to environmental protection.
Throughout the camp, participants engaged in reflection sessions, group activities, and discussions on water source conservation, micro-watershed protection, and responsible land management.
These activities reinforced the importance of coordinated efforts among communities, water boards, and co-management structures to safeguard the Reserve.
AESMO provided technical guidance and support, closing out a year of joint efforts to conserve the region’s natural heritage. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to continue promoting initiatives that strengthen community participation and sustainable water resource management.
This process is part of an innovative shared governance model that AESMO and its local partners have promoted for several years, including the purchase and protection of more than 1,800 hectares dedicated to conserving water, biodiversity, and soil in protected areas and micro-watersheds within Honduras’ Trifinio region.
