In Sonsonate, El Salvador, communities came together to commemorate the 1932 Indigenous massacre, creating a space of remembrance and recognition for the indigenous grandmothers and grandfathers who lost their lives in this tragic historical event.

As part of this commemoration, Asociación Azul Originario supported the Indigenous Communities Council of Nahuizalco, organizing two events that brought communities together around memory, identity, and the resistance of Indigenous peoples.

The commemoration included an ancestral ceremony honoring 94 years of historical memory, as well as a seed exchange, the presentation of diplomas to students from Náhuat language schools, and musical performances celebrating the cultural richness of the territories.

These activities are also the result of the training process “Strengthening the Capacities of Local Actors,” led by AZO, through which participants built the knowledge and skills needed to organize community spaces for reflection, make visible the issues directly affecting their communities, and promote proposals for transformation from within their own territories.
