United Way – Honduras
In two rural communities in Petoa, Santa Bárbara — where access to safe water is limited and housing risks persist — our partner United Way Honduras is implementing the Healthy Families and Communities project, an initiative generating real change and promoting safer living conditions for families.

The project is part of a global effort led by The Starbucks Foundation through its Global Community Impact Grants program, which strengthens communities through locally-driven, sustainable investments. United Way Honduras was selected last year as one of 100 recipient organizations worldwide. In Petoa, the project has directly benefited 49 families through educational processes, home visits, and access to safe water.
To date, 18 training sessions and more than 200 home visits have been conducted, supporting the adoption of healthy habits. Additionally, 56 eco-filters have been distributed, now benefiting 369 people and 4 schools in the community.
The results speak for themselves: participating families moved from a 75.5% rate of high vulnerability and low compliance with healthy practices at the start of the project to 89.8% meeting health and hygiene standards today.
The greatest gains were seen in healthy housing, safe water management, and waste control, while community support networks and social cohesion remained strong throughout. When a family transforms their home, they help build a healthier future for the entire community.
