Learning to transform: young people who inspire their communities today

ADUS – Guatemala

At ADUS, they know that the impact of education goes far beyond the classroom. That is why their educational project doesn’t just accompany young people in their academic training — it accompanies them in their growth as people. Currently, 75 young people participate in strengthening processes in mathematics, computer science, and English, complemented by psychological support, playful learning activities, art, vocational guidance, and community leadership training.

The results are reflected in something that doesn’t appear on a report card: the confidence, self-esteem, and agency that participants develop.

Several of them have begun to take on positions of recognition in their schools — including the honor of being flag bearers — becoming positive role models for their peers.

Among those stories is Yarmila, a teenager who arrived at ADUS as, in her own words, a serious, reserved, and shy girl who often doubted her own abilities. With the support she received, she discovered her potential step by step.

Today she is in her fourth year of Accounting, plays football, serves as her school’s flag bearer, and dreams of studying medicine.

Her story is the best demonstration of what happens when a young woman finds a safe space to grow, learn, and believe in herself.
