Perkin Educational Opportunities Foundation (PEOF) – El Salvador
When science steps out of the classroom and plants itself in the field, extraordinary things happen. That is the bet PEOF places with its Student Academic Research program, now in its second edition: a platform where students from Morazán investigate real solutions to challenges facing farmers and their communities.

This year brought 7 projects from 5 educational centers. Among the standouts: the genetic improvement of queen bees, the production of vermicompost from solid waste, and a nutrition and environmental control system for poultry production.
These proposals didn’t emerge from a textbook, but from observation, curiosity, and the commitment of young people who see science as a tool to transform their surroundings. Each selected project received a grant to support its development.
This achievement didn’t happen overnight. Behind it lie 11 years of continuous work in which PEOF has accompanied educational centers in northern Morazán in implementing pedagogical gardens, turning classrooms into living laboratories where learning by doing is the norm. A track record that today makes it possible for young people not only to learn science, but to apply it to improve their communities.
